What Tekla Tedds is genuinely good at
Tedds has earned its place. It ships with a large, well-maintained library of coded checks across Eurocodes, British Standards and US codes, so for standard members and connections you get to a defensible result quickly. Its Word-based output is familiar and easy to hand to a checker, and many practices have years of trust built up in it. If your work is almost entirely standard checks from its library, Tedds does the job.
Where Tedds starts to hold teams back
The trouble usually starts outside the library. You can write your own calcs in Tedds, but it is far harder than picking one off the shelf, so bespoke work tends to fall back to a spreadsheet anyway. It is desktop and per-seat, so licences add up and cross-office collaboration means passing files around. It is Windows-only. There is nothing in Tedds that will draft or review a calc with AI. And your work lives in its format rather than moving freely into the documents your team already uses.
