What is structural engineering software?

There are two kinds. Analysis software (ETABS, SAP2000, RFEM, SPACE GASS, STAAD.Pro) builds a model and solves for forces and deflections. Calculation software (CalcTree, Mathcad, Tekla Tedds, calc spreadsheets) checks members and connections against the design standard and records the calc for review. Most structural firms use both. CalcTree is calculation software, and it takes results from your analysis models.

What is the best structural engineering software for calculations?

Does CalcTree do structural analysis?

CalcTree is for design checks, not building-wide models. Python with engineering libraries is built in, so beam, truss and frame analysis can run inside a calc, such as the 2D truss template, which runs OpenSees. For whole-building models, keep your analysis software and bring the forces into CalcTree.

How does AI fit in?

AI builds and checks calcs, but the maths runs in CalcTree's engine with units and visible working, so an engineer can check every line. AI can be switched off for teams or projects that need it off.
